You have to be upfront in life about what you want in death, or you may be disappointed. SunLife Cost of Dying Report 2022 says the song most played at funerals was
‘Abide with me’
But when they asked people what song they would most like played at their funeral the answer back was quite telling…
‘Always Look on the Bright Side of Life’.
And there’s plenty of other data floating indicating the dead are getting a duff deal such as 42% of people didn’t even know the funeral basics of whether their loved one wanted to be cremated or buried.
However, for a whole new generation passing away is likely to be a much more personalised deal than for their more religiously constrained, graveside-tied forebearers.
To continue to thrive the funeral services sector will need to appeal to a more demanding generation wanting to exit on their own terms, without ritual and prescription, in a fundamentally more individual and imaginative way.
And we'd like to lend them a hand by asking 'those about to die' what they think in our ‘wake up and smell the coffee’ poll:
We’ll share the results in the next week or so on LinkedIn to hopefully galvanise some action.
